Woman in Yoga StretchTop Problem That Yoga Addresses—Stress

It’s no surprise that more and more people are experiencing significant stress these days. Yoga offers an effective solution to the problem of stress. Paying attention to your breathing during yoga calms the body and provides a focus for meditation, which has been shown to decrease stress levels. While yoga is ideal for relaxation and meditation, as well as reducing stress, it also helps with stretching and bringing balance back to the body.

We ask new students to arrive 10 minutes prior to class starting the first time they attend so there is sufficient time to chat with the instructor and settle in. If you have your own mat and yoga props such as a block or bolster please bring them along. Yoga blocks and straps are provided, and some mats are available however they are limited. It is also advised to bring a blanket for comfort.

Water and tea are available at the clinic. It is best to wear unrestrictive comfortable clothing—anything you like that allows you to move and feels appropriate for a group space.

If you have any injuries or concerns about the practice, we ask that you advise the instructor prior to class. You also will need to complete and sign the health form and waiver prior to the class which is available at reception upon arrival.

When attending your first class you will be welcomed by your instructor and shown around the clinic space and yoga room. At reception, there is a health form and waiver for you to read and sign. In the kitchen space, you will find a pot of herbal tea for your enjoyment.

Your instructor will spend a moment speaking to you before class to explain details about the props needed for the class and also check in around any injuries you might have. She will show you into the yoga space and where you can set yourself up and place your belongings.

Each class starts with a grounding practice and mindful breathing to arrive in the space either seated or lying down, and then we move through different sequences and postures for about 45 minutes.

You can change and adapt the practice to do only what feels right for you, so you can skip certain movements or take a rest whenever you want to. We finish the class in a relaxed shape of your choice with calming music or singing bowls in the background.

If you’re new to yoga you may feel unsure of what to expect or wonder if you’ll be doing the poses correctly. There is no right or wrong way of doing yoga! Our approach to yoga is about having fun as well and not taking the practice too seriously.

Classes at My Wellness Chiropractic are also small and allow for more tailored options rather than getting lost in the crowd. When you’re here, there is no comparison or competition; each student focuses on their own practice.
